Today is National Brandy Alexander Day. The IBA (International Bartenders’ Association) ingredients of this yummy cocktail are:
1 Part Cognac
1 Part Crème de Cacao
1 Part Fresh Cream (or ice cream)
Ingredients should be mixed together in a cocktail shaker and poured into chilled serving glasses. It’s common practice to sprinkle a little bit of fresh nutmeg on top of the drink.
Some people like to use vanilla ice cream in place of cream. I have to say that’s the way I recommend going, unless the weather is exceptionally cold in your location.
My very first Brandy Alexander was served to me this way at my late dad’s favorite restaurant in Palatine, IL. It didn’t just come with ice cream, either. A virtual mountain with the cocktail ingredients running down the sides to form a moat appeared in front of me. The waiter who served me brought several spoons, but I wasn’t sharing! It was delicious. And the amount of ice cream probably kept me from ordering any more alcohol.
If you celebrate today’s food holiday with smaller cream or ice cream portions, enjoy! And if you have one too many, review the information in my post on Bloody Mary’s tomorrow!
