Will the oil based Minwax polyurethane we have work or do we need to buy c.. Water based over oil stain is fine—but poly is not the best finish, IMHO.
In this video, Tom Monahan of General Finishes explains how you can use oil based and water based.
By the way, I waited overnight for the stain to set before hitting it with the poly, which is quite different than the way I topcoat waterbased stains .
Minwax® Polycrylic® Protective Finish is a crystal clear, fast-drying protective topcoat for use over bare wood, oil– and waterbased stains, paint and wallpaper.
